Week of Dec. 12th

This week we were so excited to finally have the weather cooperate and allow us to get out and participate in a community walk. Thank you so much to the three parents who could join us and make our walk possible. I would love to schedule more walks in the New Year, so if you can join us on any Wednesday afternoon, I will try to recruit another parent or two so we can go. 

This week we completed our hearing and sound unit. While on our walk, we applied our learning as it relates to echolocation by playing a game called Bat and Moth. 



The students also took some time to enjoy their sit spot. This is a wonderful time to tune into nature by spending time outdoors sitting in quiet awareness or focusing on natural objects and perhaps "seeing" it and its remarkable details for the first time with some effort. During our sit spot time, the students choose a place outdoors that appeals to them. We will visit this spot repeatedly throughout the school year to observe the natural world. Through our visits, we will begin to note the changes in the surroundings in all types of weather and seasons. As our time increases in our sit spot, we will start to extend our learning objectives to include journalling and sketching. 



It looks like a cold week ahead which means several indoor recess. I have invited the students to bring in their favourite board games ( no video, or electronic games please) to share with their classmates. Please ensure that their games are labelled. 

This week the entire school is also participating in a several spirit days.

Tuesday, December 20-

  • Holiday Hat Day (Students are encouraged to wear their favourite holiday hat to school)

Wednesday, December 21-

  • Holiday/Fun Sweater Day (Students are encouraged to wear their favourite holiday or fun sweater to school)

Thursday, December 22

  • PJ Day (Students can wear pajamas to school. We will be celebrating literacy on December 22, so please bring a favourite book)
  • Last Day of Classes before Winter Break – Best Wishes for the Holidays from the Staff at Ramsay School.

 

Friday, December 23, 2022 – Sunday, January 8, 2023

  • Winter Break – No classes for Students

Week of Oct. 12th  This week we started one of several lessons which focus on writing a personal narrative. We discovered a personal narrative is simply a true story about you. This can be tricky for students, so supporting them to break this task down with several mini-lessons is extremely beneficial. Our first mini-lesson was designed to help them understand what a personal narrative is and how to brainstorm a topic that they feel is worth writing about. When we brainstorm we think about all of the different things we can write about and find the best possible topic to write about. When you brainstorm personal narrative topics you can think about memories you have about things that have happened to you, fun things you have done with your family or friends trips you have taken or special places you have visited, activities you have done at school or anything else that has happened to you in your life. Week of May 8th

 This week in literacy, we continued with our poetry unit and created a Diamanté poem for Mother's Day. We also continued to develop our research skills by choosing and representing an invertebrate of our choice. We also looked closely at the rules required to learn how to add "ed" and "ing" endings correctly. We discovered that when adding "ed," there are three rules to follow. Rule 1: If two consonants follow a vowel, just add -ed. Rule 2: If you have a v-c-e pattern, drop the silent e and add -ed. Rule 3: If a vowel is followed by one consonant, double the last letter and add -ed. When adding "ing" we learned that if we have a short vowel sound with one consonant, we double the consonant and add "-ing" as in putting. If we have a short vowel sound with two consonants we just add "ing" as in jumping. Finally, if a word ends in "e" we drop the "e" and then add the "ing as in joking.  In math, we b...
