During our community walk this week our students began to capture photos of interesting connections that we have made over the past few months while walking our route along the Elbow River. With these photos we will begin to capture our stories and create an interpretive walk to share with other students and parents. To begin this process we have been learning how to capture good photographs by learning some basic photography tips such as; getting in close, keeping an eye out for composition, consider how far is your subject and is it in focus, consider the rule of thirds  ( avoid putting something dead center in your frame) and edit your favorite photos.  The grade three class continued to their exploration of multiplication this week by finding patterns and recalling multiplication of even and odd numbers. They learned how to create a chart to help them recall multiplication facts that include rows and columns and position numbers in the top left-hand corner. An example is provided b

Week of March 7th  For the last few months we have been working hard at developing our writing skills while writing personal narratives, biographies and autobiographies. This week we have turned our focus back to story writing. To help us we have started by creating a fractured fairy tale. A fractured fairy tale is a story that uses fairy tales that you are familiar with and changes the characters, setting, point of view or plot. Usually these changes add humorous to the story. How would that change the story and the characters?  I can find and read/watch or have read to me a common fairy tale. I can consider how I can create an alternative version to that tale. I can create a flow chart to brainstorm a  beginning, middle, problem, solution and ending to my fairy tale, I can use my flow chart to hel

We had a lovely week as we enter into the month of March. The saying March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb was a perfect way to connect our learning to similes and metaphors. We took our learning and cameras outside on our community walk looking for inspiration to create our own examples of similes and metaphors and we were not disappointed. Below are a few examples of the students photographs,  discoveries and writing. Can you find the simile to match the photograph?  "The tree bark looks like a flute playing in an orchestra" "The ice is like craters in the moon" "The flower is like a cartoon from the Lorax" "The branches are covered in frost like a blanket of velvet" "The berries are as red as cherries on a chocolate Sunday"  "The ice drips like a slow moving faucet"  The grade three's have continued their learning regarding multiplication. We continue to practice our skip counting to help us learn our multiplic
