Week of April 17th

This week the students continued to work diligently on their Life Cycle animation projects. The students have been doing an excellent job creating their short films to represent what they have learned about their animals' habitats, adaptations and life cycles. They are now practicing reading their script to coincide with their movies. We hope to have them all completed by the end of the week and posted in google classroom for you to watch. Stay tuned.

We have been participating in Literacy Circle groups for the last month in Literacy. This has been a lovely time to enjoy being in small groups and supporting each other as they read a chapter book. Through structured discussion, Literacy Circles guide students to gain a deeper understanding of what they have read through structured discussion and written and visual responses. Each day the members of the group rotate through specific jobs. I have included the groups' instructions to better understand these jobs and the tasks involved.

This week in Math, we have completed our unit on Fractions. We started this unit by being introduced to fractions using paper folding. We learned that the denominator in a fraction is the number of equal parts in the whole, and the numerator is the number of selected or shaded parts. Grade three's learned to write a fraction for the shaded region in shape divided into equal parts. Next, we used fraction strips to compare two fractions and determine which was larger or smaller. The students also learned to properly use the vocabulary whole, half, and quarter.
