This week started on a creative exploration using glass as the medium. Thanks to Clay for Kids, we learned how to make beautiful glass fusion art. We were able to use our book "The Tree in Me" as our inspiration. We discovered how to make a glass birch tree and choose which season we wanted to represent. The students were great at listening to some very detailed directions and showing a growth mindset while taking on this new art form. We are all excited to see how our glass panels turned out once they have been heated in the kiln.

I can show my ability to learn and try a new way of representing an image using a different art medium.

I can accept and apply feedback

I can share materials

For the past few weeks, we have also been working on a Social Studies project that helps us understand and highlight landmarks that make our city unique. Each of us chose a specific landmark in Calgary and expressed our appreciation for that landmark, sketched it and discovered an unknown fact about it. To connect this project to literacy, we also took the opportunity to learn how to write a proper letter. We then used this information to inform a student from Nova Scotia about a landmark they should visit should they ever make it to our city.

We look forward to hearing back from our new penpals and perhaps learning about their favourite places to explore in Dartmouth.
